Police in Kansas City opened fire on a van after mistaking the backfire for gunfire.

It started as a miscommunication.

Me: "What would you like for dinner? Do you have a preference?"
Him: *indiscernible response*
Me: "Corn?
Him: *indiscernible response*
Me: "Portal?"
Him: "Oral!"
Me: "Oh! I thought you said 'corn', and then I thought you said 'portal', and I thought 'Corn portal? What the heck is he talking about?!"
